HE WAS MAGDEBURG’S MASTER COACH
Bernd Henneberg is considered one of the most successful swimming coaches in the world. He was known as the “master coach” not only in Magdeburg. His former protégés Dagmar Hase and Antje Buschschulte alone won multiple Olympic medals.
For decades, Bernd Henneberg won medals for SC Magdeburg (SCM) in swimming. His successful era, during which his SCM protégés won more than 100 medals at international events, included Olympic champions Kathleen Nord, Kristin Otto, and Dagmar Hase. The exceptional coach was named “Coach of the Year” several times by the German Swimming Association.
The tribute to the successful coach was unveiled in 2026 on the Sports Walk of Fame in the presence of numerous interested parties and companions. He is being honored for his extraordinary sporting career – in particular for his services to swimming in Magdeburg. One of his greatest successes was Dagmar Haase’s Olympic gold medal in the 400 m freestyle in Barcelona in 1992.
