Sports Club Magdeburg is one of Germany’s most successful handball clubs. The entire SCM was founded in 1955, with the handball division following in 1958 and soon competing in the GDR first division. SCM won the GDR championship several times and also caused a sensation internationally.
After reunification, the club continued its success in the German national league. National and international titles followed, including victories in the EHF Champions League in 2002, 2023 and 2025 – milestones in the club’s illustrious history.

On 27th April 2002, SC Magdeburg made history: it became the first German club to win the EHF Champions League, beating the Hungarian team KC Fotex Veszprem 30:25 at home in front of 8,000 fans in the sold-out Bördelandhalle. “Today is a day to make history”, the fans’ cardboard signs proclaimed – and they were right. The 2002 triumph is honoured on the Sports Walk of Fame.
SCM celebrated this historic success again in 2023 and 2025.
