MARK ZABEL – CANOEING
Mark Zabel is one of the most successful German canoeists of his time. He made his mark on the German canoe team for over a decade and was almost always on the international podium between 1995 and 2004. In 1996, he won gold in the 1,000-metre kayak-four event at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Two more Olympic medals followed – silver in Sydney in 2000 and bronze in Athens in 2004. His six world championship titles and numerous other medals made him a central figure at the club 1st SC Magdeburg and a highly successful athlete in international canoe racing.
