ANDRÉ WILLMS – OLYMPIC CHAMPION IN ROWING
André Willms is one of the most successful German rowers of the 1990s. As a 20-year-old, the athlete from SC Magdeburg won Olympic gold in the men’s quadruple sculls in Barcelona in 1992 and defended his title four years later in Atlanta. Having won a total of five world championship titles, he dominated international rowing for over a decade. He also stood on the podium again at his third Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, winning bronze.

Magdeburg honoured André Willms for his outstanding international achievements, most notably his Olympic victory in 1992, by including him in the city’s Sports Walk of Fame. The honour emphasizes his role as a sporting ambassador for the city and for his club 1. SC Magdeburg. The residents of Magdeburg voted for the first outstanding athletes to receive a bronze plaque on the Walk of Fame, and André Willms was among them.
