THE MAGDEBURGIAN REMAINS LOYAL TO HIS CLUB
Bennet Wiegert is one of the most successful German club coaches. He has remained loyal to SC Magdeburg for almost his entire life. Why is that?
Bennet Wiegert enjoyed many successes as an SCM player. This period as well as his father, handball player Ingolf Wiegert, shaped his deep understanding of the sport. After his successful playing career, he became head coach of SCM in 2015. The team became one of the most successful in national and international handball under his leadership. The Magdeburg native is considered a meticulous strategist and is one of the most outstanding coaches of his generation.

The coach of the Bundesliga handball club SC Magdeburg was honoured on the Sports Walk of Fame for his achievements as a former professional handball player and for his outstanding successes as a coach following the club’s victory in the 2023 EHF Champions League. The name Bennet Wiegert is inextricably linked to this victory. At the unveiling of the plaque, Bennet Wiegert was visibly moved and said: “I am very proud to be honoured in this way in my hometown and to be represented here alongside all the great names in sport.”
